How to Book your Iowa Field Day

Students who are 18 years of age and older and successfully completed the Iowa Adult Online Course, are not required to attend a Field Day. If you would like additional training, you have the option to register and attend a Field Day.

Once you have successfully passed your online hunter safety course you must attend an instructor-led Field Day in order to complete your certification.

To complete Iowa's hunter education requirements and obtain your Iowa Hunter Safety Education Certificate, you must pass both the online and Field Day portions of the hunter education course.

The field day will last approximately 4 hours in length and may include live-fire exercises (please check with the instructor). As you complete Field Day activities, please remember to follow all the rules of firearms and hunting safety. The Field Day is completed with a written final exam.

To register for a Field Day in your area, visit the Iowa safety education courses registration page at

You must bring a copy of your Field Day Voucher and a piece of valid ID to the Field Day. Students who do not have a Field Day Voucher will not be admitted into the Field Day. Children who do not have their own ID may have their parents or guardians show ID on their behalf.

The Hunter Education Field Day Voucher is valid for one year from the date of issue. Safety education courses are not handled all year around. For example, the hunter education and the independent/internet hunter education courses are handled outside of the hunting seasons. Look for those classes to be held in the spring, summer and early fall. Classes are held by volunteer instructors.
