Hunting License Laws

Idaho Hunter Education Requirement

In order to purchase a Idaho Hunting License, you must have a valid Idaho Hunter Education Certificate if you were born after January 1, 1975.

Idaho Adult Hunting License

Anyone 18 or over who hunts in Idaho must first purchase an Idaho hunting license. Licenses must be purchased on an annual basis. Hunting license fees may vary from one year to the next, and are different for residents and non-residents. Lifetime hunting licenses are also available from the Fish & Game.

Idaho Youth Hunting License

Idaho residents between 10 and 17 years of age may hunt provided they have completed a hunter safety course. Youth hunting licenses are available from the state.

Residents 10 and 11 years old may purchase a youth small game hunting license to hunt turkey or sandhill crane. An adult who holds a valid hunting license must accompany youth at all times while hunting.

A Junior Hunting License is required for those 12 to 17 years old to hunt big game, turkey or sandhill crane.

Game Tags

In addition to having an Idaho hunting license, big game hunters must purchase a tag for the game they intend to hunt. These tags are available from the Idaho Fish & Game.

Hunter Orange Requirement

Hunter or blaze orange clothing is strongly recommended for all hunters during the upland and big game seasons.
